Its not necessary that a ghazal is presented in a movie in the same manner as the poet had conceptualized it। In many Hindi movies, both old and new, almost every type of romanticism is reduced to passionate relationships!

Its not necessary that a ghazal is presented in a movie in the same manner as the poet had conceptualized it। In many Hindi movies, both old and new, almost every type of romanticism is reduced to passionate relationships!
I am at a slight advantage about this, in that, I can’t distinguish between Sahir’s ghazals that are taken in films and those in the anthologies। So for me each one has a universal appeal।
Although a socialist by temper, Sahir was not a mutineer or a radical who could resort to carnage for a whim.
Here are excerpts from one of Sahir’s best known epic titled ‘Talkhiyan’
मेरी उम्मीद अगर मिट गई तो मिटने दो
उम्मीद क्या है बस इक पेश-ओ-पास है कुछ भी
मेरी हयात की गमगीनियों का गम न करो
गम-ऐ-हयात, गम-ऐ-याक-नफस है कुछ भी नहीं
मुझे तुम्हारे तागा’फुल से क्या शिकायत हो
मेरी फना मेरे एहसास का तकाजा है
मैं जानता हूँ दुनिया का खौफ है तुमको
मुझे ख़बर है ये दुनिया अजीब दुनिया है
यहाँ हयात के परदे में मौत पलती है
शिकस्त-ऐ-साज़ की आवाज़ रूह-ऐ-नगमा है

मैं अपनी रूह की हर इक खुशी मिटा लूँगा
